In order to give you the best care possible, our nurses follow these guidelines for your blood pressure:
**Blood pressure over 140 systolic (top number) or 90 diastolic (bottom number) is considered high.
Blood pressure stages:
1) Normal: less than 130 systolic or less than 85 diastolic
2) High Normal: 130-139 systolic or 85-89 diastolic
3) Hypertension and high blood pressure:
Stage 1 140-159 systolic or 90-99 diastolic
Stage 2 160-179 systolic or 100-109 diastolic
Stage 3 180-209 systolic or 110-119 diastolic
Stage 4 210/higher systolic or 120/higher diastolic
*Stage 3 or 4 readings will be referred immediately to your doctor.
*Stage 1 or 2 are referred after 3 readings in a row.
**People on a hypertension medication should have a target blood pressure from their doctor.
